Writefull Revise

https://revise-upce-cz.writefull.ai/

Web application used for language checking of already written texts. Ideal tool for checking texts before they are submitted (e.g. sent to publishers, conference organisers or upload to STAG. The application checks grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and style.

Writefull Cite

Web application to identify those parts of a scholarly text that are cited and should be referenced. Similar to Writefull Revise, tool is suitable for students submitting a thesis or for researchers submitting their article for publication.

WARNING! Writefull Cite is not an anti-plagiarism system, it does not compare texts for similarity like Theses.cz or Turnitin. Nor does it check bibliographic citations for accuracy. It only marks those places where a reference is missing.

Access is possible only within internal UPCE network. For remote access you must connect via VPN and terminal server.

See the instructions below for more information.

Add-on Writefull pro Word

  • for access see instructions below
  • instructions on how to use the Writefull add-in for MS Word can be found in the attached PDF.
  • The download of the add-in on university computers is automatic

Like Writefull Revise, the add-on for Word checks the linguistic correctness of texts (grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and style) while writing a scholarly text in English. You can either check the whole text (Check Document) or just a selected paragraph (Check Paragraph). In addition, it also has two extra features that the web application does not allow: Sentence Palette and Language Search.

Sentence Palette is a searchable collection of sentences and phrases commonly used in scientific publications. They can be used for structuring text (for example, how to introduce the aim of a paper in the introduction, etc.).

Language Search is a function that compares text (that you have typed into the search bar) with a large database of scientific publications. It will show how certain words or phrases are typically used in academic writing. You can either just see how many times your search term has actually been used (and in what contexts), or use the more advanced search features. These include searching for synonyms, words that fit the context, and comparing words and phrases in context.

Proofread vs Full Edit Mode

Within the Word add-on, you can choose between Proofread mode, which is ideal for quick proofreading, and Full Edit mode, which offers more thorough proofreading.

Proofread mode offers corrections for grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and style (at the individual word level). Full Edit mode offers advanced proofreading beyond individual words and revises entire phrases and sentences. To enable the feature, click Full Edit in the menu. To use the original language check for grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and style, select Proofread mode instead, which is set by default.

How can you start using Full Edit?

Users using Word 2016 and later, Word Online or Mac: just update the add-on to the latest version.

Users using Word 2013: download the new version here: https://www.writefull.com/writefull-for-word.

Add-on Writefull for Overleaf

UPCE subscription also includes Writefull for Overleaf.

Widgets

Title Generator

https://x.writefull.com/title-generator

Widget can generate a suitable title for the article (or other text) based on the inserted abstract. The inserted abstract should be between 150 and 2000 characters long. If you are not satisfied, you can re-generate the title any number of times.

Abstract Generator

https://x.writefull.com/abstract-generator/index.html

Widget can generate an abstract for your article. You insert your manuscript (from introduction to conclusion, without reference list) and Abstract Generator will generate an abstract for your article. If you don't like the generated draft, you click the Generate button again and a new abstract is generated.

Paraphraser

https://x.writefull.com/paraphraser/index.html#

Widget can paraphrase sentences. It allows paraphrasing at three levels: low (minor changes), medium (word and phrase level changes) and high (phrase and syntax level changes). You can avoid overusing certain words and find new variations to express your ideas.

Attention! We strongly advise you not to use the tool to paraphrase other authors' sentences; always enter your own text. The tool does not support plagiarism. If you want to work with other authors' ideas, paraphrase in your own words and always include a link to the source!

Academizer

https://x.writefull.com/academizer

Widget can transcribe a sentence written in informal English into academic (scholarly) English.

Writefull has developed its own AI model to convert informal language into academic language. The generated text is not only more formal, but also fits better in an academic context. It is therefore ideal for writing final papers in English or for writing academic texts. The difference between the Paraphraser widget and Academizer: Academizer was created to rewrite informal language into academic language, while Paraphraser rewrites academic sentences into new academic ones. So if you have written a sentence in informal English and want to rewrite it into academic English, use Academizer. If you have written a sentence in academic English and want to rewrite it, use Paraphraser.
