Author identifiers are unique identifiers that allow authors distinguish themselves from other researchers and to unambiguously associate themselves with their work.
Author ambiguity in the scholarly community is a persistent problem due to:
- one author publishing under multiple variations of the same name
- common names
- name changes, e.g. marriage
- cultural differences in naming
- ORCID iD is an international, unique and permanent identifier of an author in the academic and scientific environment.
- By registering, an author is assigned a unique 16-digit numeric identifier (e.g. 0000-0001-5109-3700) and a profile is created in which he or she can manage records of his or her publications, projects or other scholarly activities.
- For more information about this identifier, how to set up, manage and link it to other identifiers, see the separate ORCID webpage.
- ResearcherID is the identifier of an author whose at least one record is indexed in the Web of Science database
- is assigned automatically. You may therefore have multiple profiles created. In this case, check the publications, and confirm only those that are really yours. It is possible to request the merging or deletion of profiles. A verified profile is marked with an icon
- The profile automatically lists publications indexed by Web of Science, but the profile owner can also upload publications indexed outside Web of Science
- the profile can be synchronized with Orcid ID: Sync with Orcid
- Scopus Author ID is the identifier of an author whose at least one record is indexed in the Scopus database
- is assigned automatically. You may therefore have multiple profiles created. To correct or merge a profile, use the Author Feedback Wizard
